Description

This is a unique opportunity to lead golf operations at one of the nation’s most iconic golf venues. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned Head Golf Professional with a minimum of five years of experience in a leadership role. The Head Golf Professional will be a strong leader that is hands on and has a track record of leading by example. He/she will be genuinely passionate about golf, and all types of Member/Guest interaction.


He/she must be highly experienced in golf genius and tournament operations, event execution and daily golf operations. The ideal candidate must ensure member service excellence is consistently delivered, execute a seamless golf operation, and understand the importance of tracking revenues and profitability. The ideal candidate must take personal responsibility for the professional delivery and development of all aspects of the golf operation and possess a keen understanding of hospitality. Primary area of responsibility also includes organizing and training the golf operations staff, scheduling, and critical observation of his/her surroundings. This candidate must have an innate desire for operational improvement on a daily, weekly, monthly, and long-term basis. The Head Golf Professional will execute the daily golf operations while assisting the Director of Golf in the long-term execution of the vision for Firestone. The relationship with the Director of Golf will consist of mutual respect, collaborative efforts, and a shared commitment to improvement, success, and innovation. The Head Golf Professional will report directly to the Director of Golf.


In this position the candidate will be challenged and must be self-motivated, creative, possess the highest levels of accountability, think outside the box, be flexible and a logical thinker. Detailed orientated in their approach to the operation as well as use his/her ability for critical thinking, essential problem solving, and a dedicated collaborative effort to push the golf operations to the highest levels.


Essential Responsibilities: 


  • Assist Members and Guests in creating a positive, memorable experience ensuring the highest level of service including prospective Members.
  • Oversee and manage all staff in the golf department, including the outside service personnel. 
  • Maintain high levels of accountability and responsibility for the golf operations and staff.
  • Recruit and monitor/ develop staff and complete regular performance reviews.
  • Ensure that all staff has appropriate opportunities to develop skills, knowledge, and experience to enhance their performance. 
  • Develop and monitor all learning and development activities for the team and promote PGA Training. 
  • Maintains a professional image and recognizes the importance of a displaying a professional appearance.
  • Help to develop a budget in line with reasonable expectations and hold yourself and your department accountable.
  • Establish golf shop operations personnel policies and ensure proper hiring, training, supervising, personal development, and corrective action in accordance with fair labor standards, safety, and established Club policy.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of, and instruct staff in, compliance with all Club policies and procedures to provide a safe and secure working environment.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate achievement of objectives in each area, implementing changes to operational plans as needed to ensure overall success for the golf facility.
  • Promote positive employee relations.
  • Ensure all HR issues are managed professionally, consistently, and fairly, ensuring compliance with Employee Handbook polices are complied with.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Director of Grounds and Golf Course Superintendent meeting to discuss all items related to the grounds.
  • Initiate and manage programs to provide members with a variety of innovative functions, programs, and events. 
  • Create ongoing in-house promotions and activities to increase Member participation and experience and to stimulate revenue in different areas of golf operations. 
  • Identify and develop value added products and services to enhance the members experience. 
  • Stimulate innovation, encouraging staff to think outside of the box and put forward new ideas. 
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with individuals, managers and other teams and act as a role model of professionalism.
  • Provide effective team leadership, giving direction to staff and motivating and supporting them to achieve individual and team objective.
  • Coordinate and ensure all written correspondence, reporting, newsletters, and communications for the golf operation are accurate.
  • Display fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf, golf facility operations and tournament operations.
  • Oversee the Membership competitions and handicaps.
  • Be IT literate with experience of relevant software applications and computerized POS; Management systems/data storage and tee time systems.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise the golf operations team 


Experience Required:


  • Class A PGA Member in good standing
  • Highly Experienced in Golf Genius, tournament execution and member events
  • Previous experience as  a Head Professional or 1st Assistant at a premier, private facility preferred
  • A verifiable career track that demonstrates a record of effective operational leadership and commitment
  • High-level proficiency in MS Office applications and other technology
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills in written and verbal formats
  • Highly skilled in the execution of events and tournaments for members and guests as well as outside events.
  • Positive interpersonal skills and excellent oral communication skills for the management of staff and service of Membership
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong leader and able to assemble and develop a goal-oriented and continuously improving service-focused team
  • Strong diplomacy skills, able to enforce club rules especially consistently and effectively in challenging situations and to develop subordinate staff to do same
  • Collaborates when needed with all department heads, specifically the General Manager, Director of Golf and Golf Course Superintendents
  • Forward-thinking visionary who works tirelessly to expand, improve, and enhance the golf operations
